August 10: Saint Lawrence Steak Kabob Marinade

3 things I never knew about Saint Lawrence:

1. He was a deacon, not a priest.

2. The patron saint of grilling, Lawrence was literally grilled to death, suffering the most painful of executions. His final, joyful words were, “It is well done; turn me over!” Naturally, he is also the patron saint of comedians.

3. Saint Augustine says that St. Lawrence lived the true response to the Mass: total gift of self.

2 tips for this recipe:

1. This steak kabob recipe is perfect with steak (cut up into cubes), onions, bell peppers, potatoes, zucchini, squash, mushrooms!

2. Let your kabobs marinate for 1-6 hours for the fullness of flavor!

1/2 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/2 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup olive oil
2 tablespoons dijon mustard
4-5 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
2 teaspoons dried basil
1/2 teaspoon red pepper
2 teaspoons oregano
2 teaspoons dried parsley
2 teaspoons black pepper
salt, to taste

  1. Whisk all ingredients together; enjoy!

St. Lawrence, pray for us!
